Music from opera has enchanted composers and listeners for centuries. In this International edition, Daniel Morganstern and Elaine Fine have selected three sections of music from operas by the 19th century Italian composer, Giuseppe Verdi, for cello duet. The first work, from I Masnadieri (The Robbers), is a highlight of bel canto writing for cello. In the second, from Rigoletto, the eponymous character pitifully laments for his abducted daughter. The final work, from Un Ballo in Maschera (A Masked Ball), expresses the final laments of a woman who desires to hold her son one last time.
