Carter Pann's Third String Quartet, Los Tangos Azules, (2019) is an 18-minute suit of four atmospheric tangos, which the composer suggests may be accompanied on stage by authentic tango dancers. The darkness and mysterious teasing of tango style blend with Pann's contemporary voice in varying ways throughout the four contrasting movements.
