Rodolphe Kreutzer was an importantviolinist-composer in his own day.  Hislegacy to today’s violinists is not limited to the 42 Studies (also calledetudes” or caprices”), but they are certainly the best remembered of hisworks.  Few students of the violin haveadvanced without spending some time with Kreutzer’s 42 Studies!  The Schirmer edition of this work is editedby Edmund Singer and includes a page-long biographical sketch of the composer.
