Part of Janacek's late flowering in his 70's, this String Quartet is subtitled "Intimate Letters" and refers to the more than 700 letters between him and Kamila Stosslova, a woman 38 years his junior. Caught in an unhappy marriage, this masterpiece of a quartet represents Janacek's "manifesto on love" and is one of his finest - and last - works. It was premiered in September 1928, a month after Janacek died.This edition contains parts for two violins, viola, and cello.
