Mikhail Glinka composed his Six Studies for Contralto in 1833 while the Russian composer was staying in Berlin. Inspired by a beautiful singer with whom Glinka had become enamored, these Studies translate wonderfully to the cello. This work was largely forgotten until Russian composer Yuriy Kochurov took interest in it, restoring the piano part and editing the work into a finished cycle.
