Product Description
"Mystery surrounds Debussy's Intermezzo for cello and piano. The only known autograph manuscript was acquired by the cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, who had a first edition published in 1944 (involving som rearrangement of the solo line). Subsequent references to the piece in the Debussy literature confused it with a different Intermezzo that Debussy was known to have composed, in 1882, under the influence of Heinrich Heine's Lyrisches Intermezzo. After Debussy's Heine-inspired Intermezzo came to light in the 1990s, the present piece's independent character became clear, its title page identifying it as the fouth movement of a planned suite for cello and orchestra. Of that entrancing prospect for cellists, only the present Intermezzo is known, surviving only in cello-piano form." - excerpt from the Forward by Roy HowatThis piece includes a solo cello part and piano score.
