Based on Jing Yun Da Gu, a type of traditional Chinese storytelling accompanied by music, Chen Yis From Old Peking Folklore is an advanced-level duet for violin and piano. The composer writes:

"I used this musical language in the creation of my duet, in which the violin part imitates the fingering, bowing, style, and the spirit of Chinese traditional music and instruments."

From Old Peking Folklore simultaneously introduces the player to both Chinese traditional music and contemporary music techniques.
