Category: Viola and Piano ** Title: Sonata In F ** Composer: Granville Bantock ** Publisher: Lauren Publications ** Difficulty: A5.
Sir Granville Bantock (1868 - 1946) was an English composer and conductor. Though he was a rough contemporary of Edward Elgar and Gustav Holst, he is less well-known today. He is remembered primarily as one of the founders of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and as a champion of the music of other British composers like C.H.H. Parry and Charles Villiers Stanford. Elgar dedicated one of his Pomp and Circumstance marches to Bantock, and Finnish composer Jean Sibelius was the first president of a posthumous "Bantock Society" devoted to the preservation of his music.
The Sonata in F for Viola and Piano, composed in 1919, is dedicated simply "to Colleen". This edition is a reprint of a 1920 J&W Chester edition.
