Renowned pedagogue Shirley Givens’ series for beginning violinists is widely respected for its clear, child-friendly format, and its sensible progression through techniques. There are lots of pictures, fun and familiar songs, and even pages for coloring! Ms. Givens uses a “movable Do” system to teach pitch relationships and good intonation. Recommended for very young children.
Book 3A, Meet Professor Doremi Fasolati, throws open the fingerboard and provides the basis for the discovery and exploration of new keys and finger patterns, with "Professor Fasolati" as the guide. The close 1-2 finger pattern is introduced in High G Major and C Major. Three beats to the bow and stopped slurs are presented, as well as dotted rhythms, conducting in 2/4 time and 3/4 time, tempo markings, grace notes, and more note reading.
