Dear Friends,
Like many of you, I begin to reflect on my life this time of year, breathe a little bit and spend time with loved ones. In that spirit, I want to share a few thoughts about myself, Voce and our vision over the last few years.
In 2006, the seeds of Voce were sown. We hadn't formed yet, but there were a handful of people who thought we could make a go of this. Chief among them was my dear friend, Tom Cooke. At a local bookstore, Tom and I hashed out a plan over a cup of coffee. We laid out a dreamscape of what could be and began the work to which we were called. I did not know it then, but that one meeting and that one cup of coffee would be the dawn of Voce and my own personal advent.
Since that time, Voce has collectively realized that dream. We wanted to build a new thing, lay a strong foundation and use our collective voice to make a difference in our community. I can now say to you that we have done this - and it has made an impact on all of us, locally and globally.
Voce does not rely on government or foundation grants to support our mission, nor do we spend money we don't have. We have created a community with you the old fashioned way: we make music with you.
We are a vocational ensemble - we use our music to evoke artistry in others. This is the essence of the Voce experience: a house free of the ordinary, serving extraordinary harmony. And in doing so, we may return to our daily lives, refreshed and renewed to cultivate this harmony in and with others.
As we move into the future, we are vetting some ambitious plans - building on the strength of our past and a renewed sense of purpose in our own neighborhood. I ask that you make a pledge to Voce - an investment in Hartford's finest.
Play a generous role in "Dreamscape" on March 2nd. Spread the word about "Anglophile" on April 6th and make a gift to Voce!
Happy Holidays,
Mark Singleton, Artistic Director, Voce Inc.
