Oskar Rieding was primarily a performing musician during his lifetime, holding the concertmaster position of one orchestra for more than 30 years. He did, however, find the time to compose a handful of student concertos (also called concertinos) for violin and piano, most of which still survive in repertoire of beginning and intermediate violinists. This particular concerto, Op. 24 in G major, is an intermediate-level piece employing the 1st, 3rd, and 5th positions of the violin. This edition contains editorial markings by Herbert Scherz, as well as a play-along CD.
The CD begins with a tuning track, and contains a concert version of the piece, followed by practice tracks for the player at three different tempos: slow, moderate, and performance tempo. On the slowest of the play-along tracks, the player has a choice of hearing both violin and piano, just violin, or just piano. In this way, it is a very helpful practice tool for the violinist.
The performers on this recording are:
*
Violin - Nadejda Tokareva
*
Piano - Vitaly Junitsky
