Vocal and Organ Score. Still Falls The Rain was composed in 1997 and first performed by the Chester Bach Singers in Chester Cathedral on 16 May 1998. Composers Notes When the Chester Bach Singers asked me to compose a new choral work for them, I was delighted to learn that they were in favour of a challenging text and a piece of some seriousness, even though confined to a duration of ten minutes or so. At the time I had been reading much modern history and I had become more moved and appalled by the insane greed and pitiless carnage of so many meaningless wars in the 20th century. I had also been researching, for another commission, the work of the 14th century hermitess, Julian of Norwich, who devoted her entire solitary life to meditation on the crucifixion. Howard Blake Arranged for SATB Chorus with Solo Soprano or Treble and Organ, set to a poem by Edith Sitwell. Duration: c.10 minutes.
