Trained at Yale and Eastman, composer Emma Lou Diemer is presently Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she taught music theory and composition for many years.  She has been the recipient of many awards, including a Fulbright Scholarship, in addition to building an extensive catalogue of compositions, including the Suite for Violin and Piano, written in 2008.

The suite consists of three movements, described in the performance notes to this edition as follows: "Summer Day is light-hearted, carefree, and generally tonal, although moving around quickly among various tonal centers.  Elegy is an expressive soliloquy for the violin, with the piano offering warm chordal support.  Jazz Romp is drivingly rhythmic and upbeat.  All three movements make flexible use of meter changes.  The work is meant to be audience-friendly, and, as one reviewer commented, Diemers new piece has sophistication, substance, and unpretentious charm."

This edition is for violin and piano or organ (two of the movements call for organ accompaniment, but it can also be played on the piano).  Published by Hildegard Publishing Company.
