'The Copland Violin Collection' is truly a boon to those who love the fresh, open sounds of this American composer. Containing transcriptions as well as pieces originally written for violin and piano, it covers a wide spectrum of Copland's work. It includes pieces that are familiar, like the 'Hoe-Down from Rodeo' and also a few that are lesser-known, like the 'Ukelele Serenade'. In addition to the shorter pieces which make up most of the collection, it also contains Copland's 'Sonata (1943)' for violin and piano, which is a simple, yet lovely piece written in memory of a close friend of the composer who died in World War II. The arrangements and originals in this set are best suited to advanced players, and are ideal choices to fill out a recital program.
